Why I Now Live In Thailand

After my first night out in Pattaya, Thailand, when I met a woman on a blind date arranged by one of my best friends, I sat up in bed and I thought about the details of the night before. We had started in The Pig and Whistle, where I was staying on Soi 7.

The Pig is a nice, peaceful, sedate, air-conditioned oasis of serenity in a street, which is one of the liveliest, loudest and most crowded streets in Pattaya.

We went outside into the soi (lane) and into a stream of people not dissimilar to that of a queue heading for a football match, except that all the women were dressed in bikinis. We had popped into one of those outdoor bars, where my friend had a surprise waiting for me.

His girlfriend of a time, whom I knew nothing about and a friend of hers who wished to meet up with me. The four of us had stayed there an hour before walking the thirty metres to Beach Road.

The traffic is one-way on Beach Road, so we took a Baht Taxi North (a pick-up truck) going with the flow and got off two or three kilometres further on just before Walking Street, which is the most famous street in Pattaya.

We had gone into a complex of bars and sat at one at random. It was only then that I realized that the bars were all set out surrounding a Muay Thai boxing ring, where the fighting was uninterrupted and free, although foreigners are expected to give a prize to the winner of each bout of 20-100 Baht ($1-$3).

We sat there an hour and moved on to Walking Street to have a meal. We ate at a seafood specialist restaurant which has a pier or jetty as its dining area. The food was fantastic and the mood was romantic with the moon reflecting on the sea and the atmospheric lighting.

I don’t believe that I had a opportunity in reality, I fell for my beautiful date that night and I saw her every day for the rest of my 30 days holiday. We had a magnificent time and when I had to go, I decided to find out if I could settle in Thailand.

I went home and calculated, that if I was cautious and a few things fell in my favour, I would most likely have enough money to stay there for ten years.

Six weeks later, I went back to Thailand and Joy was waiting for me at the airport. Nothing had changed between us and we took a bus to visit her family in northern Thailand.

We slept in a room that her brother had given up for us and everyone made me feel very comfortable. Joy’s family live in a traditional teak house built on stilts and everyone lived and slept in one space in the traditional fashion, with the exception of Joy’s brother, who had built an extension, because he was eager to be married soon.

I love that village and still live there now, seven years on. Joy and I are married and have our own home – a traditional, European, concrete-block bungalow not five metres from Joy’s mum, who is a brilliant mother-in-law.

Her family appear to appreciate what a big step it was for me to come here alone and are determined to be there for me, if I need help, like my own family in the UK would be. The job at hand is learning Thai as no one else in the village, except for my wife, speaks English.

Do you require to get a UK Visa for a Thai? We can help you on our free website called http://uk-visas-for-thais.the-real-way.com.

Which Are The Most Precious Gems?

People like precious gemstones for various reasons. Some store wealth in gemstones and precious metals, some wear then to show off their wealth and their self-perceived status, some believe that wearing their birthstone will bring them health, wealth and happiness and others wear them because they look nice.

Valuable gemstones have always been sought after because of their value, but in older days, they were also valued for other reasons, such as being able to bestow good health. This belief persists among some people, but not a lot in the Developed World any more.

In the Developed World, most people wear precious stones for their beauty and to display status. In the East, people also wear precious gems to display status, but collect them because they do not traditionally have faith in banks.

And who could blame them in the light of the Developed World’s recent experience with their financial banking crisis and the meteoric rise in the cost of gold? There is probably a lesson for us all here.

Anyway, apart from precious metals, there are precious stones and the most valuable of them are: emeralds, diamonds, rubies and sapphires. The order of the stones in value relies on the quality.

Diamonds of ordinary quality are worth more than emeralds of ordinary quality, but high quality emeralds are worth more than high quality diamonds, because it is difficult to find emeralds without many faults, which are also called ‘inclusions’.

Diamonds come in all sorts of colours from clear to ‘black’. Clear diamonds are what most people want, but there are some very costly large coloured diamonds in yellow and blue.

The difficulty with gemstones is that their supply is closely regulated by cartels and governments, which keeps their price artificially high. Diamonds are the worst of the bunch in this respect.

De Beers controls a substantial proportion of the diamond market and was able to regulate prices for decades. The Argyle mine of Australia produces 7,000 kg of brown diamonds, which were by tradition considered worthless for the purposes of jewelry.

However, due to a talented marketing campaign, brown diamonds are now considered valuable in Australia, although clear diamonds are still preferred in the remainder of the world.

Emeralds are a gorgeous green gemstone, but it is very hard to buy a good one. Lots of emeralds have been doctored to look more valuable than they really are, but this is a fact of diamonds as well.

If you like red stones, then a ruby is for you. Ruby is a definition of the colour red and rubies can range from blood red crimson to pink, but in general, the deeper the red the better. However, not all red stones that are sold as rubies are rubies, but you could have guessed that

Sapphire is normally a beautiful deep blue, but may also be pale blue to pink. Sapphires come mostly from the East, like Thailand, Russia but even North Carolina in the USA.

If you are going to buy any of these top gemstones, buy the best that you are able to afford, because you can pass them on to your family as an inheritance.

Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed martial arts is greatly well-liked now. It is as well-liked as wrestling was in the Seventies and Eighties. The difference is that everyone knew that wrestling was choreographed, whereas mixed martial arts (some people call it cage fighting) is not. Mixed martial arts is for real and for very high stakes comparable to those of world championship heavy weight boxing championships.

Mixed martial arts or MMA used to be completely unregulated and that put a lot of people off in the late Eighties and Nineties, but now that there are safety rules (some, anyway), this extreme sport has become more popular. There are now two styles of MMA though, sport and street. The former is more governed than the latter where almost anything goes.

Despite the increasing popularity of mixed martial arts, there is still no real governing body for the sport, although there are quite a number of organizations vying for the privilege on both sides of the Atlantic. Britain has at least three companies trying to become the regulator of MMA in the UK. The USA roughly the same.

One of the top organizers of MMA fights, if not the top organizer, is Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC. They put on pay-per-view bouts on cable TV which can pay top fighters nearly a million dollars a fight! This only goes to show how well-liked mixed martial arts has become.

Apart from proceeds from pay-per-view and national TV, there is a huge amount being taken from spin-offs like videos, DVD’s and T-shirts. There are also figurines, dolls and board games to say nothing of documentaries and books. Web sites on mixed martial arts abound as do blogs and forums. Most contestants also have Twitter and Facebook sites.

This has provoked young people of both sexes to join a gym and take up martial arts. This can only be a good move. Training frequently will counteract the trend in Western children towards obesity and will also help confront bullying and street violence. Trained fighters seldom turn into bullies or muggers.

The fad for MMA seems to be quite recent, but that is not true. Inter-disciplinary martial arts fighting was well-liked in the 1890′s in Europe. Then there was the documentary film ‘Kings of the Square Ring’ featuring Muhammad Ali in around 1980. The modern craze took off in the early Nineties, but it is in full flow now.

Mixed martial arts, or pankration, was an Olympic sport 2,000 years ago and fans tried to reinstate it as such in 2004, although the movement failed, but who knows what the future will bring about? Many powerful legislators believe that the sport is too violent and that it ought to be regulated more closely. The fans and the fighters disagree, so we will have to wait and see which faction wins out.

Razor Scooter Series

The Razor kick scooter is the present-day equivalent of the variety of scooter that has been about for 50 years or more. In actuality, kids have almost certainly been attaching boards to wheels ever since scrap wheels became available. As with those classic scooters, the Razor kick scooter is driven forward by foot power. That is, you put one foot on the board and push forward, or in other words kick back on the ground with the other.

This method of movement makes this kick scooter an idyllic style of transport, exercise and pleasure for kids of all ages. In deed, Razor do not recommend a Razor scooter for the under fives unless supervised by an adult and maintain in their handbook:

“Children under age eight (8) should ride with adult supervision at all times. All children and preteens should ride with adult guidance at all times”.

This seems pretty strict to me and is almost certainly an instance of over-caution because of the litigious culture we live in. Just try suggesting to a twelve-year that you have to use supervision on all of his or her trips!

Having said that the Razor kick scooter comes in approximately seven different guises. There is the Kiddie Kick scooter for the under fives. It is constructed of tough plastic and has a third wheel for greater stability.

Then there is the ‘A’ series of Razor scooters: the A, A2, A3 and AW. These models are more or less equal to a child’s increase in size, ability and experience, although the highest suggested weight for all three models of Razor scooter is 65 kilos or 143 lbs.

The Razor kick scooter Pro is a leap up in technology and so has more facilities. It can be used for extreme sport and will put up with a rider weighing up to 100 kilos or 220 lbs.

Last, but not least, is the Cruiser Razor scooter. It will carry 79 kilos (175 lbs of weight and has larger wheels as it is intended for laid-back cruising about. The bigger wheels mean that you won’t be conscious of any rough ground beneath you while you are on this Razor scooter.

All of these Razor scooters share comparable characteristics. All of these models of the Razor kick scooter are of very tough manufacture and all but the Razor Kiddie Kick scooter are made of high-grade aluminium and are built to last.

These Razor scooters have extensible steering rods, which means that they can be pulled up to grow with your child or can be used by kids of different sizes. They also share a tough braking system which operates on the rear wheel, rendering them ultra-safe for use in the vicinity of pedestrians.

A Razor kick scooter begins at about $40 and so is an economical method for you to make certain that your youngster gets regular exercise, gets out from behind his computer, gets some fresh air and sunlight and learns about good manners while having fun being mobile. Besides all these advantages, a Razor kick scooter will give your child warm reminiscences to look back on for the rest of his or her life.

How To Use Forex Trading Ebooks

If you would like to learn a new skill, you will have to do some research on that issue. This is even more the case of hobbies that could earn or lose you loads of money. The places that most individuals go to to endeavour to make a bit of extra money are the stock market and the foreign currency market (or Forex). Of these two, the foreign currency exchange is the more dangerous.

The Forex is the biggest market in the world and individuals, banks, institutions and governments in each country deal on it twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The waters are very deep and the sharks are very big and they are always in a feeding frenzy.

So, before gambling with your hard-earned money, you have to do a huge amount of work. However, help abounds both on and off line. There are thousands of expensive books in the bookstores suggesting trading strategies and techniques for making money by predicting currency movements.

There are also numerous ebooks and free on line trading simulation accounts. This is a cheaper option to purchasing paper trading training books, which always appear to be dearer if they are on money than other hobbies. Ebooks are often a third of the cost and the free on line mock-up accounts are priceless.

The first thing to do is open a Forex Trading Account. This is not always as easy as it may appear. You will probably have to pay a notary public to verify your identity, which is to counter money laundering, although quite how it does that I do not know.

Then you may be required to put some money in your account. These were the requirements I came across when joining a Swiss Forex broker earlier this year. Shop around, you might be luckier.

Then, download a couple of free ebooks on Forex trading for beginners soak up the fundamentals with reference to the trading simulation feature of your live account. Do not play with real money at this stage. When you are comfortable with the functioning of your account and you understand the trading terminology, move on to the next phase.

Get some more ebooks which concentrate on trading strategies and test some out. This could take months and that is not a bad thing, at least it has not cost you anything yet. Once you feel competent at this level, you may need to buy some ebooks of the highest quality or on specialized trading techniques and strategies that interest you.

Now you are ready to go live, but take it slowly. Have you been successful on the simulation trading platform? If so, try to use the same strategies with real money. Keep your stakes low until you feel confident and set yourself a maximum loss – an amount that you can afford and if you lose that, go back to studying.

You can make money on Forex but it takes a lot of research and lots of time. Never allow yourself to get rushed into making a snap purchase – there are hundreds of trading opportunities every day. Keep reading ebooks on Forex trading to improve your skill.

How To Deal With The Symptoms Of Stress

We are all under stress the majority of the time and a lot of people like to think that they understand stress and can use it to get a piece of work done to the best of their capacity, but do you really know what the symptoms of stress are and what it can do to your body? When we are piling the stress onto ourselves, we merely assume that our bodies will adapt and get on with it, but is that actually the case?

The fact is that we all have our own point at which stress is reasonable. This is because stress can be emotional, physical and mental and if you exceed your capacity for any length of time in any of these areas, you can cause short-term or even longer term damage, which could need professional medical help.

If you do not take steps to regain your equilibrium, you will soon find that the apposite role in your life will suffer: that is, your relationships will fail, your physical health will crumble or your ability to do your job in the correct manner will vanish.

The physical manifestations of stress are aches and pains, including headaches, general fatigue and lethargy. Unchecked, these symptoms can lead to migraine, muscle tension and stiffness.

These major changes to how your body operates can then result in other issues such as diarrhea or constipation, nausea and dizziness. These symptoms of stress, in turn, can lead to sleepless nights or insomnia.

When it gets this bad, individuals normally turn to medication, but medication can merely give temporary relief such as sleeping tablets. This can lead to dependence.

If the sufferer already has a weak heart, this combination of indications of stress can lead to chest pains, palpitations and erratic heart beat, which in turn can be precursors of heart disease. Please note that this chain of activities is not guaranteed.

People are different and some doctors are better than others, but stress and heart disease have been shown to be connected.

Symptoms of stress can also show themselves in behavioural problems. These indications of stress frequently begin with insomnia or merely difficulty getting to sleep and waking up unrefreshed. However, feeling constantly dog-tired has a knock-on effect on our emotions – we tend to become more emotional, but often in a negative way. Often this means over-reacting, like snapping at someone who has asked a perfectly sensible question.

This sort of response can lead to the sufferer shunning society. Self-pity, isolation, loss of job and depression can soon follow.

So, you have to learn how to get off that slippery slope, the downward coil of everyday stress. The place to begin is the mind. You have to learn how to recognize when ‘things are getting on top of you’ and learn how to unwind.

There are a number of successful techniques including meditation, breathing exercises, aromatherapy and playing soothing music in order to bring about a state of relaxation in your mind.

When you are learning to take the symptoms of stress head-on with your mind, take some time to pamper your body too. There are also numerous ways of doing this, but popular methods are taking a sauna or having a massage or pedicure, facial or manicure. Having your hair done.

Physical exercise is a good reliever of stress too and it does not have to be arduous. A thirty minute walk, twice a day is sufficient for most people, but you may grow to like it and then it is the more the better.

Finally, you could take a good look at your diet. You do not have to go overboard, but do you drink too much coke, coffee or tea? Do you consume a lot of rubbish? Are you eating enough fruit?

Keeping Your Dining Room Table Clutter-Free

Is your kitchen or dining room table a depository for everything that people can not be bothered to put away? In between meals does it get heaped up with the letters, books, school bags, hats and shopping just because people are too idle to put things away?

A gorgeous looking table is a lovely sight, whether you prefer a highly polished surface or whether you like to see a tablecloth or a runner. Books, a hat, gloves and keys are certainly not the same.

This kind of mess is a bad practice because at some time or another, someone has to tidy it away and that someone is normally Mum and that sometime is usually just before she wants to set the dining table for a meal, precisely when she does not have the time to do it. Even when the clutter is tidied from the dining table, it usually only ends up somewhere else where it should not be.

If you can not bring to an end this bad habit by introducing some discipline into the members of your family, maybe you should try another line of attack. Screw two or three hooks per person into a board on the wall of your passageway so that people can hang things up as soon as they come in and attach bins to the wall with the names of the family members on them so that they can put small things in them that they need every day like keys.

People can get into the habit of putting their stuff in their own container and hanging up larger things. Additionally, if you find something lying around where it should not be, you can dump it in the right person’s container. This should clear up mess on the dining table practically over night.

The dining table doubtless also acts as a desk for homework and work brought home from the office. This is not a problem so long as people tidy their things away after them, which they all too often do not do. You can make it easier for people to tidy their work things from the dining table by having a cupboard close by especially for these items.

Try to institute good habits early on in a child’s life by encouraging it to eat off plates at all times because it catches crumbs and by always placing drinks on coasters because it does not leave rings on varnished table tops which only need to be rubbed away later.

Another way to deter family members from leaving things lying around on the table is to place a gorgeous runner or tablecloth on it. Then put a centre piece on the table too. This could be a bowl of fruit or a few photographs. If you use the table for dining, you could try what they do in hotels and lay the table with the cutlery for the next meal as soon as one meal is finished. It saves you a job later on as well.

Handheld eBook Storage And Reading Devices

Everybody knows about the problem of the production of greenhouse gases and the destruction of the rain forests. We all know about the stress that over-crowding puts on the environment and we all know that we are trying to do our bit by recycling. The differences of outlook normally come down to degree. In short, we all know that it is going on, but we do not all agree how serious it has become yet.

Fair enough, in my opinion. I distrust anyone who calls himself an expert. That is a description that should be used to describe you, no one that you use to portray yourself. Like the individuals who call themselves entrepreneurs rather than business people because it sounds grander.

Anyway, I am going off on a tangent. One of the things that readers can do is not buy books, newspapers and magazines. This would relieve the strain on trees and allow the recycled material that we currently use for books, newspapers and magazines to become used on essential school books. It may even make them a bit cheaper.

Naturally, publishers of paperback books, newspapers and magazines are not going to be happy with that proposal and neither are individuals who work in the industry or readers who like to hold their reading material in their hands. Nevertheless, it seems inevitable that it will come to pass one day.

Indeed, many moves have already been taken in that direction. There are tens of handheld ebook reading devices on the market, the most well-known of which is almost certainly the Amazon Kindle. The Kindle comes in two sizes: the normal 6″ model for reading ‘ordinary’ books and the 9.7″ item for reading technical books, newspapers and magazines. Needless to say, the larger model will also display paperbacks.

The Kindle and lots of the other similar handheld ebook reading devices will permit the owner to link to an online book store, library or repository and download books, newspapers and magazines for a fee. Having said that, there are hundreds of thousands of books that are out of copyright, which can be downloaded free of charge from Amazon, Google and the Glutenberg Project.

Many of these handheld ebook reading devices will hold 3,500 books! That is a lot of paper, whichever manner you look at it. 3,500 books at your finger tips and in your pocket with millions more where they came from and many more being added to the libraries each day. All downloadable from anywhere where the Net is accessible anywhere in the world in a minute or two.

This means that enthusiastic readers or researchers never have to wait for the bookshop to open again or have to go into town to look for a bookshop or library. How many trees and gallons of petrol will that save you in your life?

It is already often predicted that universities will start selling course books to their students on such devices within five years and that high schools and colleges will follow suit within ten years. These handheld ebook reading devices are probably not suitable for infants because they are not robust, but private readers are taking them up rapidly.

There are a number of video game systems on the market, but if you are searching for a game system that also can be utilized with a home theater entertainment, then the best choice has to be the Xbox game console.

Often it is the case that children will want to play games during the daytime on holidays and before bedtime during the week, whereas parents will want to watch films at night before retiring to bed. Therefore, the two age classes need not clash often with their use of the home theatre console.

Therefore, if you can get a device that fulfills both the roles of playing games and playing films, you can save some money. The Xbox game system fits this function, because the Xbox is one of the new generation of video game consoles that can also play films on DVD or whatever drive format.

The Xbox is actually a very hi-tech piece of apparatus, something that non-game players may not have known. It meshes easily with a home theater system because it has wide screen video capability, HDTV screen resolutions and Dolby Digital and DTS sound support, making it a perfect home theater set-up component.

The Xbox is also a good looking piece of kit, which will match any existing black home theater equipment you may already have. It does not look like just a plastic toy.

It was developed by Microsoft and has a powerful, stylish look. The Xbox’s case is black with an X on it and a green Xbox logo resembling a jewel.

The Xbox is basically a cut-down computer as it has many components of a personal computer such as an Intel processor, NVidia graphic chips and an internal hard drive among others.

PC’s are general purpose machines, whereas the Xbox is designed for playing DVD’s in more ways than one. In other words, it is a dedicated computer. It is dedicated to the task of playing DVD’s and it does it very well.

However, it also has four controller sockets in the front of the unit for connections and it has an Ethernet socket for multi player games that allows other gamers on the Net to take part in the game.

The Xbox console includes as standard: the controllers with a 9 ft cable, a normal AV cable, and an AC power cord. It also comes with a DVD loading tray and a multi signal audio-video connector for simple connection to televisions and other home theater equipment.

The Xbox will change the fashion you think about games and how you play them, because it is so dedicated to making interactive games a reality and as exciting as they can. Games are written particularly for it such as the Dead or Alive series and the Halo series too.

However, there are sports simulations to be had too such as football and Formula 1 motor car racing. The graphics, sound and overall reality are remarkable. Finally, for parents who are worried about what their kids are watching, playing or doing, there are parental controls built into the Xbox.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on a range of topics, but is now concerned with the Fisher Price Big Foot Monster. If you would like to know more, please visit our web site at Smart Toys for Kids.

Decorating Your Bathroom And Kitchen

For the person who seems to have it all or for the person who is bored with their lifestyle, there are a few things that you can do to jazz-up your life. Perhaps the best way though is to start redecorating your house. Some of the first places you should look at redecorating are your bathroom and kitchen.

These are often the most overlooked and most used rooms in the entire house. Think about it, have you redecorated at least even one of these rooms within the past five years? The answer is probably going to be no. In which case think back to the last time you even looked closely at your bathroom or kitchen other than to clean them.

More than likely, if you noticed anything at all, you put the idea off until a future date when you could devote more time to decorating your bathroom or kitchen, although at that time, the place certainly didn’t look as old as it does now, after all, the years soon mount up and even though you’ve been keeping it rigorously clean you can’t prevent the slow march of time.

It is probably true that if you take a closer look now, you’d find that the curtains are looking a bit drab and ragged around the edges, as are the bathroom rugs. And do not even look at the soap dish. It is quite true that they don’t make them like they used to and for a very good reason too!

So, you should do yourself a favour and throw out all that unused junk in the bathroom and get yourself some new accessories – you will be surprised at what lovely things you can find nowadays. Besides, you’ve probably been eyeing that beautiful new bathroom set you noticed in the mall for some time, so at the very least now you will have a good reason to go out and splash out on yourself.

And while you’re at it, you might as well buy that nice new salt and pepper set you saw for the kitchen and a few rugs that can be used in either room. Ideally, they should be resistant to such commonplace occurrences like water spillage, soap, oil grease, fat and all the other things that somehow seem to become ground into your carpets.

However, if you’re looking for some new ideas on decorating your bathroom or your kitchen, there are a number of sources you can get your inspiration from. The best one I’ve found so far are the catalogues, which you can read to your heart’s content.

With all these options, you can even substitute something that is less expensive for the items that you see in the catalogues. This then, is the best way to get your decorating projects started and to keep yourself busy for some time to come and to make your long suffering bathroom and kitchen areas spotlessly new and glitzy.
