There are so many different sorts of massage that it can get quite difficult to choose which sort would be best for you. Nearly every country or area in the world has its own local style of massage therapy. However there are basically two broad types of massage and these are therapeutic and relaxation massage therapy styles.

Therapeutic massage is meant to heal problems with muscles, bones and joints, like, say, a bad back and relaxation massage therapy is intended to relax a person after a stressful day, so it soothes the knots aways from the muscles and the stress from the mind. There is a certain degree of overlap between these styles though.

These two styles can be characterized by two different techniques from two different parts of the world. Swedish massage is a relaxation technique from the West and Ayurvedic massage is therapeutic and originated in the East.

Swedish massage, also known as classic massage, is the standard oil massage used in America and Europe. It is exemplified by long, gentle, flowing strokes in the direction of blood flow, which are meant to encourage circulation and relax muscles.

There are four or five fundamental techniques to Swedish massage:

1] Effleurage – these are the extended strokes typical of Swedish massage. They are carried out with the whole hand or a pad for the length of the back, the length of the arm or leg.

2] Petrissage – this involves lifting the muscles away from their usual siting and squeezing them so that the massage goes deeper in order to further enhance circulation and remove toxic build-ups.

3] Friction – this is as hard as it gets; the fingertips are used vigorously in deep circular movements on bony sections and joints to enhance flexibility in joints and muscles.

4] Tapotement – this is the slapping, chopping and tapping that you find in Swedish massage. It may be conducted with a fist, the heel of the hand or the edge of the hand like a karate chop. These short, sharp, rapid taps are meant to alleviate tension and cramp.

5] Vibration – the hand or hands are put on, say, the lower back, and the masseur vibrates his hands. It is said to be helpful for those with certain problems like backache.

The Ayurvedic massage method is to be seen in Shiatsu, Thai massage, Muslim massages, Indian massages and a number of others. Ayurvedic massage incorporates the Eastern approach of harmony and attempts to reinstate the balance of harmony between the mind and the body.

Some of these forms of massage use oil but Shiatsu and Thai do not. They all make use of pressure points by means of acupressure. Chinese types use meridians, the Thai kind uses Sen, which are not the same.

Ayurvedic massage applies a form of reflexology or foot massage on the feet and yoga postures on the rest of the body. This massage requires a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology in order to manipulate the limbs, joints and muscles.

Besides this specialized information, Ayurvedic massage makes use of all the methods used in Swedish massage as well. It is the basis of the massage techniques used in hospitals and physiotherapy.

Trades and similar player movements are a fact of life for NFL players. While players may not always be happy with a trade to a new team, more often than not they willingly accept their new assignment and try to make the best of it. That’s apparently not the case with the Oakland Raiders newly acquired defensive end Richard Seymour. Seymour was acquired by the Raiders on Sunday and as of yet has not reported to his new team.

The trade surprised NFL observers, with the Patriots sending Seymour to Oakland for a 2011 first round draft pick. There is some speculation that hes doing a de facto hold out in hopes of getting the Raiders to re-work his contract but this hasn’t been confirmed by anyone involved.

For the time being, Raiders coach Tom Cable is being vague about the situation:

I really have nothing to report on that. Nothing has changed at this point.”

He also declined to comment on questions about a potential new contract, which makes it more likely that money is likely the sticking point:

“I don’t want to comment about anything of that until we have something that’s done and concrete.

Seymours former coach in New England, Bill Belichick also gave his version of a no comment but praised him as a player:

“Because we don’t have rights to Richard, there really isn’t anything I can say about him or his situation. So I’ll have to pass on those questions at this time. There’s a lot of things that Richard did well but that’s the way it is and we’re moving forward and our team’s moving forward.”

Pats defensive coordinator Dean Pees also refused to comment:

“This is not going to be an interview about Richard. It’s really about Buffalo and whoever we have here to face the Bills.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello had nothing to add either:

“Any comment at this time would have to come from the teams.

Most NFL observers think that the Patriots made the move in order to free up money to negotiate with defensive lineman Vince Wilfork. That has raised concern that New Englands defense has quickly become very young and more problematically without a strong leader on that side of the ball. Belichick isnt concerned:

“We have a lot of good leaders on our team and especially on the defensive side of the ball. No doubt about it, it’s different, but I think it’s good.”

The Patriots open their 2009 NFL regular season on Monday night at home against the Buffalo Bills. The Raiders will also kick off their campaign on Monday night as they host their hated rivals the San Diego Chargers. Regardless of how the Seymour situation shakes out, its unlikely that anything will be resolved in time for him to play in the Raiders’ season opener.

Using AV Software Today

AV software or anti-virus software plays an important function in detecting, preventing, and removing malware, computer viruses, computer worms, Trojan horses, spyware and adware.

It is a fact that the Internet has proved to be a fantastic medium of communication, but at the same time it is an simple target for computer viruses and worms that can cause great chaos to a networking system.

Computer viruses and worms have the capability to adjust, delete and steal data, with worms also having the ability to multiply and spread themselves to cause great concern.

The necessity of installing AV software is imperative because it is fairly possible that a infection or worm could have been in a computer a long time before one realizes it.

This could leave your computer infected a long while before you take action for its removal. So the proper functioning and storage of essential and confidential data requires the latest version of the software which can help to not just keep your personal computer clean and uninfected, but would also inform you of threats where prompt action is required.

A number of strategies can be used in anti-virus protection using signature based detection involving searching for known patterns of data within executable code. But it is necessary to know that this does not always prove effective if the computer is infected with new malware.

There are constantly new updates made for the software to counter such so-called zero-day threats. Some of them use heuristics to foresee new dangers.

Generic signatures, one heuristic approach, has proved effective in identifying new versions or variants of current viruses by looking for known malicious code, or slight versions of such code, in files. Some AV software has, in addition, the ability to test what a file will do by running it in a sandbox. It can also analyze what it does to see if it will perform any malicious actions.

The necessity of installing AV software on your computer for Internet usage arises out of a requirement for computer safety and the protection of vital documents and files that could become damaged or lost forever. The two main methods that AV software works involve, firstly, that it scans for all the viruses that are specified in the virus dictionary.

Then it alerts the user, after having found them, of their suspicious nature like port monitoring, spyware or data capturing. Then it takes action to get rid of infected files either automatically or on instruction from the user. Most decent AV software will update these updates automatically, which is done by having the software connect via the Net to the vendors? server for the daily downloading and installation of the latest virus patterns.

I would say that anti-virus software is without doubt necessary for the effective use of computers and the Internet, but it does not come without drawbacks such as the slowing down of the computer. Along with impairing the computer’s speed, it could give prompts and make decisions that are very difficult for laymen to understand, thereby leading to confusion and possible security breaches.

In addition, AV software that employs heuristic detection may occasionally not be able to accomplish the right balance between false positives and false negatives, with both of them proving destructive. Lastly AV software running at the highly sensitive kernel level of the operating system creates a potential avenue of attack.

What About Free Antivirus Programs?

Most individuals are aware of the proliferation of viruses, bugs, trojans, worms, spyware and other malicious malware on the Internet, but millions of individuals, including long-time surfers get hit each day. How can that be, you might ask.

It so happens that, sometimes, people forget to set automatic updates of the virus database, sometimes the antivirus software is not set up properly and sometimes it just gets switched off by accident or by software.

It is not unheard of for automatic antivirus software updates to become turned off by accident or design. It has happened to me twice this year already. Luckily, Windows 7 warned me and I took notice of that admonition and, most importantly, I corrected the problem.

This is the most important thing. If your computer warns you concerning something, especially regarding security, do not put off doing something about it. In fact, drop what you are doing and fix the problem immediately.

If you leave you computer exposed to assault by malicious software, you will suffer. It is no use thinking that you are safe because you do not perform online banking or because you do not have sensitive information on your computer, because you have.

Your acquaintances and colleagues entrusted you with their email addresses and names on the understanding that you protect their confidentiality.

A lot of malware just looks for the addresses in your email client software. Then it will harvest those details and spam your friends to distraction. Two of my friends let that happen this year and the only answer for both of them was to get a new email address and reformat their hard drive.

For example, I was receiving financial advice from my next door neighbour’s ten-year old kid. It was spam coming from Eastern Europe but it was prepared as if it came from him. He had been hacked and his address book had been sent to spammers. I had hundreds of junk email for months.

And do not imagine that you can just make a filter to send it to the bin. You cannot, because they forge the email headers so that it seems to your anti spam software that every email comes from a new address, the result of which is that your spam filter does not recognise it as spam.

This is bad enough, but it can become far worse. Spyware can sit on your computer reading the keys that you press and transmitting the information back to the boss so that they can spam you on what you just typed.

Does that sound familiar? Today you send email to a friend saying that you are going to redecorate and the next day you receive unsolicited email advertising on paint and wallpaper.

If all this sounds familiar, then you ought to take action. Type ‘free anti virus software’ into a search engine and set it up properly. If you have AV software already, check the settings. You need to enable automatic updates.

If you leave your computer always switched on that is all you have to do, but if you switch it off whilst not in use, set the updates to take place when you switch it on.

Basic Golfing Tips For Beginners: 4

We have all the seen the bewilderingly long and yet accurate drives of Tiger Woods. When he hits the ball, it flies through the air only to land in the bang middle of the fairway, 300 odd metres away.

It is difficult not to let jealousy rise in us as we wonder if we could ever dare to hope to drive like that. Luckily, long drives are not the crux of the game of golf.

So, we get to the ‘short game’ because without decent short game skills, all those great long drives are not worth a candle.

The short game consists of those shots that get you onto the green from about one hundred feet out, be it from the fairway, a bunker, the rough or a drop zone and includes chips, sand shots and pitches.

It is in this middle stage of the game of golf that you get to use the higher numbered clubs, your pitching iron and sand wedge or lob wedge.

Most golf courses have practice areas as well as a driving range. You should spend some time working on hitting the ball onto the green from different distances. Aim for a ten-foot circle in the center of the green at first. Experiment using your wedges, but what works for someone else, might not work for you and your particular swing.

After you get accustomed to performing this drill consistently, it’s time to start practising in a sand trap. Knowing how to get the ball out of a trap will cut your score dramatically.

Plant your feet firmly into the sand with your left foot turned toward the hole. Imagine a 4-inch circle around the ball and try to hit the edge of the circle that is furthest away from the ball.

Kick up lots of sand with the ball and swing completely through as normal. Don’t slow down the swing at all when or after you hit the ball. It should jump up onto the green and stop almost dead. This doesn’t work very well though unless the sand is soft and dry. On hard, compacted surfaces, you might need to avoid actually hitting the sand all together.

As in all aspects of golf, only practice will help you to improve.

Are you new to golf? We have some great our website at tips for the beginner golfer on our website at Golfing Tips for Beginners. This article, Basic Golfing Tips For Beginners: 4 is available for free reprint.

Most people have an inflated abhorrence of insects. Especially people who live in towns and cities. People who live in the country are a bit more tolerant of them. But why are we like that with insects?

Why are we forever squashing them and poisoning them? Ok, we do not want to share our dwellings with them, I think that is fair enough, but I also think that we go too far sometimes.

As an alternative to just destroying them on sight, it may be better to try to prevent them getting into the house in the first place. A lot of people seem to assume that all insects are troublesome, but this is simply not the case.

Just imagine how many more flies we would have buzzing around us and landing on our food, if it were not for spiders, but I do not know anybody who really likes spiders. They do not seem to get much credit for doing a good job. We are on the same side against flies.

But then flies help to quicken the decomposing of dead animals too. Their maggots eat the rotting flesh of dead animals, which keeps disease and bad smells under control.

Ants do the same for dead insects and cockroaches do it for bits and pieces of food left lying around. I have not found a good reason for mosquitoes, fleas or ticks yet however.

One thing is for certain, this congenital or learned hatred or fear of insects does not do the makers of pesticides any damage money-wise.

Perhaps it is time to take a step back from our paranoia about insects. It is well past time to become more judicious in our slaughter of insects.

For instance, when you spray your beautiful rose bushes with a chemical insecticide, you want to get rid of greenfly (aphids), but you are also destroying the ants, the ladybirds, the spiders and possibly any bees or butterflies that come to feed and pollinate. Whereas, if you had sprayed the bushes with old, filtered washing up water, you would just have killed the aphids.

Where would we all be if everyone killed all the pollinators? Cropless? In fact, the shortage of bees is already a global crisis. Although the reason for their rapidly declining numbers is not fairly clear, it will not help having their immune system or nervous system attacked by the deposit of pesticides whenever they take a drink of nectar.

Similarly with butterflies. Gardeners do not like caterpillars, but everyone like butterflies and where would we be without them? In a much duller place, I am sure.

Some species of wasps kill thousands of caterpillars. so, it is better to encourage them rather than kill the caterpillars yourself with a nuclear bomb of a chemical spray.

Some handy natural ways of controlling insects are the use of washes containing Neem, Tobacco or Pyrethrum. These natural treatments deter them in small doses but will kill if used in a strong mixture.

Look out for products containing them and follow the instructions judiciously to see if they suit your needs. Borax will help control insect pests that eat their way around your household and so will corn flour.

There are numerous ways that people can become more selective whilst attacking insects. The main problem is that it is much easier to go get a spray, but if you do some research, you will find loads of methods of attacking insects with natural insecticides.

Many have a hobby to enjoy. Some collect vintage postcards. Others spelunk or search for treasures with a Geiger counter. Some prefer to be indoors with their DVD collection, arranging them by genres, sorting them alphabetically or even watching one for the eighth time.

Some go bungee jumping off 700 foot high suspension bridges into the rocky canyon below.

You may well have wondered what makes people engage in such extreme hobbies. What is the motivation behind risking their lives for a moment of thrill? What inspires them to push themselves to the edge beyond all rational thought?

But are they sane? Perhaps they have a death wish or perhaps they simply have a desperate need for attention. Maybe they are related to Evel Knievel.

Some might say yes. Others would argue that the passion that drives people from the tops of the mountains to the bottom of the ocean, from one side of the globe to the other, is much simpler.

It Would be a Shame if Passion and Adventure were Just for Children

When we were small children we would envision some fantastic adventures. We would battle space aliens, fire-breathing dragons and medieval knights. We were brave souls armed with cardboard swords and we never lost a battle. We drifted off happily to sleep at night dreaming about the next days’ adventures.

As an adult, what do you dream about? Are you still battling enormous underwater creatures and saving the world from disaster because of your heroic exploits and extreme athletic ability?

The problem is for adults those evil creatures have assumed human faces. There is no longer an imaginary world to live in. We are down on the ground and looking up with barely the energy required to heave ourselves out of our daily routine of duties and responsibilities. Those duties and responsibilities drag us down day after day until it is all a routine. No more adventure awaits us.

And there is no more passion. I ask you, who wants to live like that?

This is Why there are Extreme Sports and Extreme Hobbyists among us

What made that battle with the dragon so important to you as a child? It wasn’t just that taking on dragons was fun, although it was. And it blew doing homework right out of the water. But there was also always the chance that one day the dragon was going to win. That one day your best wasn’t going to be good enough, and you were going to be left in the dust while the dragon went on to eat the entire village.

If that wasn’t inspiration enough to get you going, nothing was going to be.

That attitude is what keeps extreme hobby lovers moving forward. They know there’s always the chance that one day the dragon is going to win, so they have to push themselves harder, farther, faster than they’ve ever done. And in beating the dragon, they feel more alive than they ever have in their lives.

Insect Pests On House Plants

Lots of people like to bring nature into their dwellings in the form of plants. Fortunately there is a wide range of plants that have adapted to the conditions in which we live. They have become adapted to the reduced light, twenty-four hour warmth and the constantly dry environment. Some more than others, it is a fact, but most people go for indoor plants that are easy to look after.

For most people ‘simple to maintain’ involves giving the plant a cup of water each week. However, some people are prepared to take more trouble over their household plants and spray them with a mist of water, dust them off and feed them from time to time as well. The more time you spend on your plants, the more likely you will be to spot infestations of insects.

Some pests thrive under the same conditions that these plants like. If you only pour a cup of water over your plants one time a week, you might not notice populations of insects thriving on your plants until they have done lots of harm or even killed the plant. Actually, insects rarely kill their host house plants, but they will often make the plant pretty ill.

This sickness may show up as fading leaves, leaves dying and falling off, leaves becoming spotted or curling or a wilting stem. Usually, problems come when the soil is overly damp as well. This is a condition that can come about if you just water one time a week and then give too much water to make it last a week.

Red spider mites are a frequent household plant insect pest that thrives under damp conditions such as these. An infestation of red spider mites is a significant difficulty for household plants. If it gets really bad, the leaves will fade, fall off and the plant will die. Red spider mites can breed very quickly and move from plant to plant around your home.

Spider mites are like ticks and can be green-to-yellow or red, They are so small as to be very difficult to see with the naked eye, so the easiest way to see them is with a magnifying glass or you could hold a dark card under a leaf and then tap the leaf a couple of times.

Check the card for signs of movement. When you know that they are there you can kill them with the right spray from your plant shop. Check your watering habits for that pant. For example, it may be better to give less water more often.

Shell insects are also very hard to see without a magnifying glass. If you do magnify them, they look like a blob of wax stuck to the stem or leaves. They suck the plant’s sap and so will stunt or even kill a plant over time. The easiest method of removing them is by the use of pesticide.

Mealy bugs look as if they have crawled out of a bag of flour. They are whitish-grey and are easily visible, usually on the underside of the leaves. You can brush them off or apply a suitable insecticide. It might take a couple of weeks to kill the bugs and their eggs.

Ants and aphids may also attack larger indoor plants, but they are easier to see and deal with. Wash the aphids with washing-up water and kill the ants with poison.

Ebooks: The Alternative To Print Publishing

Have you written a book and been attempting to have it published? If so, you will know how difficult it is to write 120,000 words of attention-grabbing material. However, it does not stop there, often it is more difficult to have the book printed than it was to write it.

You can spend years writing your book and it is really depressing when nobody displays any desire to publish it. Some writers take years to find a publisher and some never manage it at all. If that sounds familiar, how about publishing it yourself?

Years ago, this only meant one thing – paying a publisher to print a couple of hundred copies that you have to sell yourself. However, these days there is a second option and that is to publish it as an ebook. This is fairly easy these days and you can realistically have your ebook on sale within a couple of hours.

If you have written a book, say, a novel, you will be hoping to see it on book shelves in book stores, which means that you will have to flog it to publishers until you are bored with it. If you choose that you want to publish anyway, this is how you go about it.

You will probably have written your.book in MS Word format, which is as good a format as any. First download OpenOffice from the Net, you will find it by Googling ‘OpenOffice’. OpenOffice is a free office suite equivalent to and, many say, better than MS Office.

Then load your book into OpenOffice and locate the PDF converter in the ‘File’ tab. Save your document as a PDF document. First add a couple of photos if you think that they will improve the book.

Next go to Amazon and open an account at their Kindle Direct Publishing department. Go to Bookshelf and click on ‘Add a new title’. The Wizard will lead you through uploading your book on to their shelves and you will be able to set the cost for your ebook.

You will get up to 70% of the proceeds and you may decide on this percentage yourself too. You will be able to upload a picture for your book too.

Amazon will deal with all the aspects of carrying out the sales for you. They will promote your book, take the money and supply the customer with a link to download your book. The income from sales will be held in your Amazon account until it reaches $100, when a cheque will be dispatched to you.

Sales will be transacted in US dollars, Pounds Sterling and Euros and money will mount up in the three currencies. The currencies are not amalgamated so you will have to wait until you get 100 Euros and 100 GBP. You will also be given a link to your book’s advert, so that you can promote it yourself by email, newsletter or web site.
